1. Pre-Registration
The first step for individuals aiming to become a registered real estate salesperson in Ontario is completing a structured education program approved by RECO. This foundational program features five online courses and two interactive simulation sessions. Each course is followed by a theory-based exam, except for course 5. Learners develop a strong grasp of industry practices, regulatory responsibilities, and the intricacies involved in both residential and commercial property transactions.
Program Duration
Pre-Registration: Must be completed within 24 months from access to Course 1.
Pre-Registration Courses:
Courses must be completed in sequence; learners cannot register for the next course until successful exam completion has been verified.
You will retain access to all courses in Brightspace throughout your journey in the program and for one year after completing the program.

Exams: All exams are administered by RECO’s designated examination provider, Meazure Learning. You can choose from Online Remote Proctoring or In-Person exams at a designated Meazure Learning Test Centre. An exam fee in the amount of $120 is payable to Meazure Learning at the time of each exam registration.
Exam Accommodations: If you require accommodations to write your exams, you must request the accommodation at least 30 days before you write your first exam. Inquiries can be directed to realestate@algonquincollege.com with the subject line, Exam Accommodation Request.
Learning Accommodations: If you require accommodations to complete your online learning courses, please send an email to realestate@algonquincollege.com with “Course Accommodation” in the subject line and describe the type of accommodation or support you need.
2. Register with RECO
After successfully completing this Pre-registration Phase, learners are eligible to apply for registration with RECO. From the time the pre-registration program is completed, individuals have 12 months to submit an application to register as a real estate agent with RECO.

3: Post-Registration
After becoming registered with RECO, learners proceed to the Post-registration Phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program, which includes one mandatory course and two elective courses based on individual career interests.

Maximum Course Completion Timelines
Learners must complete all course modules, but not the associated exam, within the noted maximum timeframe. Learners who do not complete their course within the allotted time will be required to repurchase and their progress will be reset.
Pre-Registration:
- Courses 1, 2, 3 and 4: 5 months each
- Course 5: 1 month
Post-Registration:
- 1 month for each course
If your program end date occurs before your course deadline, your program end date takes precedence and your course end date will be the same as your program end date.
You cannot complete an exam after your 24-month Pre-Registration program period has ended. We strongly recommend completing all courses and exams before your program end date.
You will receive a reminder of your course completion deadline fifteen (15) days before expiry if you have not completed the course.
Exceptions:
Course completion deadlines may be extended in exceptional circumstances. Requests can be submitted to realestate@algonquincollege.com with supporting documentation for circumstances such as:
- Serious medical situations
- Emergencies involving immediate family
- Approved accommodations
- Other extenuating circumstances
