Launch Your Career in Real Estate with Algonquin College!

The Real Estate Salesperson Program is required to become a registered real estate professional in Ontario with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). The program includes a series of courses and exams that cover foundational knowledge, real estate essentials, and key legal and ethical responsibilities.

The Pre-registration Phase includes five self-paced online courses and two interactive simulation sessions. Each course is followed by a theory-based exam, except for course 5. Once the Pre-registration Phase has been completed, you can apply to RECO for registration and begin trading in real estate.

To maintain registration, agents must also complete the Post-registration Phase within their first two years of practice. The Post-registration Phase includes one mandatory course and two elective courses based on individual career interests.

Program Path

Phase 1: Pre-Registration

The first step for individuals aiming to become a registered real estate salesperson in Ontario is completing a structured education program approved by the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). This foundational program features five online courses and two interactive simulation sessions. Each course is followed by a theory-based exam, except for course 5. Courses must be completed in sequence; learners cannot register for the next course until successful exam completion has been verified.

After successfully completing this Pre-registration Phase, learners are eligible to apply for registration with RECO. From the time the Pre-registration Phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program  is completed, individuals have 12 months to submit an application to register as a real estate agent with RECO.

Phase 2: Post-Registration

After becoming registered with RECO, learners proceed to the Post-registration Phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program, which includes one mandatory course and two elective courses based on individual career interests.

Exam Info

Each course in the Pre-registration Phase —except for Course 5—concludes with an online theory exam administered by RECO’s designated examination provider, Meazure Learning. An exam fee of $120 is payable to Meazure Learning at the time of each exam registration.  After completing all modules for a given course, you will receive access to schedule and purchase your exam through a direct link to Meazure Learning. Exams can be taken either online or in person, giving you the flexibility to choose the format that best suits your needs.

You will receive notice of whether you have passed or failed from Meazure Learning 48 hours after taking the test.

Learners are entitled to two exam attempts per course, with a separate fee for each attempt. If both attempts are unsuccessful, you must re-purchase and re-take the course before you can proceed in the program.

Course Fees

Learners pay for each course individually online via credit card as they progress through the program. The cost of the entire Real Estate Salesperson Program (pre- and post- registration courses) is approximately $4,640. Actual costs may vary depending on individual progress through the program—for example, learners who do not pass an exam on the first attempt may incur additional exam and course fees.

In addition to course fees, a non-refundable $125 application fee is payable to Algonquin College at the time of enrollment.
